SCCI State-Inmate Releases

Spalding County Correctional Institution is a county correctional institution that houses state inmates. It is not the sheriff's pretrial detention center. A person may leave SCCI for another GDC institution, parole, sentence discharge, court action, medical placement, or another authorized transfer. A facility departure alone does not prove freedom from state custody. The GDC institution history and current status establish whether the move was an internal transfer or a release from confinement.

For parole, confinement ends while a state sentence continues under supervision. A discharge is the end of the applicable sentence or supervision obligation shown by the responsible record. These distinctions matter because the same name can disappear from a location without becoming inactive in GDC.

Confirm an SCCI Release

Use the official GDC Offender Search. Search by GDC ID when known, since an identification number separates people with similar names. Otherwise compare full name, physical description, major offense, conviction county, aliases, and sentence history. GDC warns that its online information may be incomplete and directs written verification to Inmate Records and Information.

1. Open the GDC query and locate the correct offender.
2. Read current status before relying on any date.
3. Compare actual release date with maximum possible release date.
4. Review most recent institution and incarceration history for a transfer.
5. Check Parole Board and DCS records when status indicates parole or supervision.

The maximum possible release date is the outer sentence date if the full GDC term is served, apart from parole decisions. It is not proof that release occurred. An actual release date is stronger, but written GDC verification remains appropriate when the precise record matters. The county P2C roster should not be used for this task.

SCCI Records and Contact

The county facility page supplies the local operational contact. GDC holds the statewide offender and sentence record. Direct a facility-operation question to SCCI and a formal state release or discharge verification to GDC. GDC's open-records portal gives an initial response within three business days, charges ten cents per non-medical copy, and may bill search or redaction time at the lowest qualified employee's rate.

Written offender verification is directed to GDC Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029. A focused request should give the GDC ID, full name, date range, and exact existing record sought. Do not ask the agency to create a new release compilation.

Spalding Institution History

The county says the original institution began as a work camp in 1952. The present location was built in 2001. It holds about 225 inmates and supports local-government work details. GDC describes the location as an adult male felon, medium-security facility. This history explains why a locally governed building appears in the state corrections search.

SCCI work details support county, city, school, public works, and other public operations. Those programs do not turn SCCI into the sheriff's jail. The governing custody record remains a GDC state-offender record. The institution's proximity to the jail, at separate addresses on Justice Boulevard, is the local source of much search confusion.

SCCI Parole and Discharge

A tentative parole month is a planned review outcome, not a guaranteed release date. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles may change a prior decision before release. Conduct, required programs, detainers, sentence changes, and other case facts can alter the path. After a release to parole, the Parolee Search and Department of Community Supervision become more useful than the institution page.

SCCI Detainers and Transfers

A detainer can send a state inmate to another jurisdiction when GDC custody ends. New charges, warrants, federal process, immigration process, or another sentence may prevent direct community release. Search the receiving system only when the case facts support that route. Spalding's sheriff publishes quarterly immigration reports, but those jail reports are not the SCCI state-offender record. Use them only when a documented county-jail event or local detainer is relevant. GDC's Find an Offender page also warns that photographs display automatically when available and that online data is not warranted complete or accurate. A photo is identity context, not proof of release. Likewise, sentence length without current status cannot show whether parole, transfer, or discharge occurred. Written verification resolves conflicts between the portal, court docket, and supervision records.
